Double Degree masters prog. Urban Water Engineering and Management (UWEM)

Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to inform you that Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand and UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands have been jointly offering a Double Degree masters programme on Urban Water Engineering and Management (UWEM) since 2009. The programme gives an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and experience from both the Asia and Europe environment. French Government Scholarships (BGF) 2011, France

Scholarship to France: BGF
French Government Scholarship (BGF) in 2011 has been opened!
About BGF 2011:

The French government through the French Embassy in Jakarta has provided scholarships to citizens of Indonesia for more than 30 years. In order to develop human resources in Indonesia, the French Embassy will provide scholarships for 2010.

The scholarships are given to civil servants, lecturers, students (especially those involved in the cooperation program between France and Indonesia) to follow the 2 types of educational programs:

Eiffel Scholarships 2011, France

The French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs launched the Eiffel excellence scholarship programme in January 1999 to support French centres of higher education in their international outreach initiatives, in a context of mounting competition among developed countries, to attract elite overseas students on master's, engineering and PhD courses.

Structured PhD programme (German doctorate) in Industrial Biotechnology, offered at:

TU Dortmund University (Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering, Bhemical engineering)

Bielefeld University (Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Systems Biology, Bioinformatics)

University of Düsseldorf (Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Engineering)

Description

The CLIB-Graduate Cluster Industrial Biotechnology offers 12 PhD scholarships starting in the spring 2011 semester. This is a structured doctoral programme of Bielefeld University, the TU Dortmund University and the Heinrich-Heine-University of Düsseldorf. All three universities are located in NRW, the most populous state of Germany with an excellent research and industrial infrastructure.

Doctoral candidates will join top research labs working both on applied and basic research, take part in key qualification courses and yearly retreats, and have the opportunity to join a company for a 3-month industrial internship. They will receive a stipend of 1500 EUR per month for a duration of 36 months.

Ph.D. position in hydrology

The Agricultural Engineering research group of the Earth and Life Institute is
offering a PhD fellowship for a period of up to 4 years to work on the refinement of
surface flow modelling at the subgrid scale of distributed hydrological models.

Research project summary
Subgrid modelling of surface hydrological flow in physically-based,
spatially-distributed models is currently based on the use of effective parameters
which cannot properly capture the subgrid connectivity of surface runoff. A
promising connectivity function – the Relative Surface Contribution function (RSC)
(Antoine et al., 2009) - has been recently developed and tested at the 1 m² scale,
which improves the modelling of subgrid runoff generation. This project seeks to
pursue the integration of the subgrid connectivity function in spatially-distributed
hydrological models and to test the scale-dependency of the RSC function and its
time-rate of change for contrasted initial conditions. This will involve a
combination of field/lab and numerical experiments.

PhD position at AISSR

‘Comparative labour relations, internationalisation and inequality'
The area is directed by Prof. Jelle Visser (AISSR and the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies (AIAS)), in cooperation with Prof. Herman van de Werfhorst (AISSR and the Amsterdam Centre for Inequality Studies (AMCIS)).
This is an ‘open' advertisement, meaning that applications are invited on the basis of the candidates' own research proposals. Only proposals that fall within the themes of the group's research programme will be considered. Please consult the programme description by following the link 'Institutions, Inequalities and Internationalisation' below.

5 PhD Studentships in Computer Lab, Uni of Cambridge, UK

We are seeking five PhD students across a range of system topics. We are seeking two PhD students to investigate the implications of photonic networks on future large-scale computer systems (such as data centres or scientific computers) with a focus on power consumption reduction. The work will involve modelling large systems of chip multiprocessors with photonic interconnect using FPGA-based emulation. These two positions are funded by the EPRSC grant EP/I004157/1, (http://gow.epsrc.ac.uk/ViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/I004157/1)
